Event details:
We know scammers are constantly evolving. So how do we stay one step ahead, and what actually happens when the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) decides to disrupt them?
For Fraud Awareness Week, join Sam McGuire and Brianna Reece, who lead the FMA's work responding to investment scams and harm at the regulatory perimeter, for a rare look behind the curtain at how they identify, respond to and disrupt harm in practice.
What happens behind the curtain?
The FMA’s approach is changing. Rather than simply reacting after harm has occurred, they’re increasingly finding it earlier, disrupting it faster and working with others to stop it spreading. Intelligence, technology and targeted disruption are helping us intervene earlier and at scale.
But what does that actually look like?
Sam and Brianna will take us through real case studies and show how the FMA uses warnings, intelligence, collaboration and practical interventions to get ahead of emerging harm. You’ll also hear how we work to disrupt the pathways scammers rely on, making it harder for them to reach their next victim.
If you’ve ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes when the FMA encounters a scam, this is your chance to find out.
Come along for an inside look at how disruption happens, what they’re learning, and how the FMA is evolving its response to scams. There will be time for you to ask any questions you may have.
