Nicola Suter is a barrister and solicitor admitted in New Zealand, Australia, and England & Wales, with a career spanning commercial law, complex asset recovery, and international justice‑sector reform.
Nicola has served in London’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), first in the Proceeds of Crime Division conducting asset recovery cases, then in the International Division as a senior policy adviser overseeing CPS engagement across the Eastern Caribbean, West Africa, and Pakistan, including participation on the UK team evaluating Pakistan’s compliance with the UN Convention Against Corruption.
Nicola then worked in the Caribbean region. At the British High Commission to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Nicola mentored prosecutors with all stages of their serious criminal matters, with a focus on money laundering and asset recovery. Nicola then moved into her role as Senior Financial Crimes Legal Adviser with the US State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) where she advanced reforms that make justice systems more accessible, efficient, and rights‑respecting for vulnerable communities.
Nicola currently contributes her expertise to the National Center for State Courts, an organisation recognised globally for elevating justice system performance and strengthening the rule of law. Her work helps courts anticipate emerging challenges, adopt best practices, and innovate in the delivery of justice.
Nicola will share some key insights from her extensive career and draw on real-world case studies spanning narcotics, cryptocurrency, money laundering and asset recovery.
